Jamunavata is the village you pass through on the Mathura–Govardhan Road just before you reach Govardhan town. For plot buyers, Jamunavata Govardhan means the practical side of the sacred town: a highway address with car access to your door, the bus stand a kilometre away and the Daan Ghati temple and parikrama marg about 1.5 to 2 km off. This guide explains the location, the drive and the way the belt is developing.
Where it sits
Govardhan is a nagar panchayat and tehsil town in Mathura district, on the road that links Mathura to Deeg, about 23 km west of Mathura. Its 2011 census population was 22,576. The Mathura–Govardhan Road approaches the town from the east, and Jamunavata is the village along that road on the final approach, under pin code 281502, the same pin as Jatipura, Aanyor and Govardhan itself. A law college on Govardhan Road is the landmark most drivers know the village by.
The position matters. Govardhan town centre, around Mansi Ganga and Daan Ghati, is old and tightly built. It has the darshan points and the dharamshalas but no space for planned layouts, and on festival days its lanes are closed to cars. Jamunavata is the first stretch of open land outside that core, which is why gated colonies have come up here.
Getting there and getting around
| From | Distance | Time by car |
|---|---|---|
| Mathura city | About 22–23 km via Mathura–Govardhan Road | Roughly 37–40 minutes |
| Mathura Junction railway station | 18–20 km | About 40 minutes |
| Vrindavan | About 26 km | Around an hour |
| Govardhan bus stand | 1–1.5 km | A few minutes |
| Daan Ghati temple and parikrama marg | 1.5–2 km | Five minutes |
Shared jeeps, tempos and local buses run between Mathura and Govardhan along this road, but they are slow and crowded. Most families who live here keep a car or two-wheeler. Delhi is roughly 150 km away via the Yamuna Expressway to Mathura, then west on this road.
How the belt is developing
The Mathura–Govardhan Road is becoming a residential corridor in the same way Chhatikara Road did for Vrindavan: the highway carries the traffic and the plotted layouts sit behind boundary walls on either side. Three of our own projects are here, and together they show the range of what the belt offers:
- Govardhanlok, an 11-acre MVDA-approved layout on Govardhan Road with plots of 60–148 sq. yd, a gated and boundary-secured layout, planned roads, electricity and water provisions and green open spaces. It is a delivered project. See Govardhanlok: an 11-acre community on Govardhan Road.
- Girraj Enclave, an 11-acre MVDA-approved gated enclave on the main Mathura–Govardhan Road with larger plots of 120–600 sq. yd, wide roads, street lighting, water and electricity connectivity and parking space. It is under construction. See Girraj Enclave: a contemporary gated enclave.
- Govardhan Heights, low-rise builder floors of 1 and 2 BHK with dedicated stilt parking, five flats per floor over three floors, on Govardhan Road. Also under construction. See Govardhan Heights builder floors.
All three are 1 to 1.5 km from the bus stand and 1.5 to 2 km from Daan Ghati and the parikrama marg. Our team shares the current rate sheet on WhatsApp.
Daily life from Jamunavata
Mornings are easy: the parikrama marg is five minutes away by car, so a weekday darshan at Daan Ghati or a stretch of the walk before breakfast is normal. Groceries and everyday needs are in Govardhan town. Anything larger, hospitals, schools with boards, a mall, means a 40-minute drive to Mathura, and Vrindavan's temples are an hour away. Families who move here full-time usually keep Mathura in their weekly routine.
The trade-off against living on the marg itself is sound. On Govardhan Road you hear highway traffic; on the marg at Aanyor you hear kirtan groups passing at dawn and, on festival days, a great deal more. We compare the two in living near Govardhan Parikrama Marg.
What to check before buying here
- The layout sanction. Highway land is still land. Ask for the MVDA layout sanction and match the khasras on UP Bhulekh.
- Highway frontage vs interior plots. A plot facing the main road is noisier and better for a shop; an interior plot is quieter and better for a home.
- Drainage towards the road. The belt is flat; walk the layout in monsoon and look at where water goes.
- Access from the highway. Confirm the layout's gate opens onto the public road, not a private strip.
What this means for you
Jamunavata is for the family that wants Govardhan without the old town's constraints: a gated layout, a car at the door, the bus stand and Daan Ghati minutes away, and Mathura for the big things. If you want the parikrama itself at your gate, look at Aanyor instead. See all three Jamunavata projects on /projects or ask our team for a site visit through /contact.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Jamunavata?+
Jamunavata is a village on the Mathura–Govardhan Road in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, pin code 281502, on the approach to Govardhan town. It sits about 1 to 1.5 km from Govardhan bus stand and 1.5 to 2 km from the Daan Ghati temple and the parikrama marg, on the highway side of the town rather than inside it.
How far is Jamunavata from Mathura?+
Govardhan town is about 22 to 23 km west of Mathura by the Mathura–Govardhan Road, roughly 37 to 40 minutes by car, and Jamunavata is on that road just before the town, so allow a little less. Mathura Junction, the main railhead, is about 18 to 20 km away. Vrindavan is about 26 km, around an hour by road.
Why do people buy plots in Jamunavata rather than in Govardhan town?+
Because the town centre is dense and old, with no room for planned layouts, while the highway belt has open land that can be sanctioned by MVDA into gated colonies with wide roads, drainage and electricity. You keep a short drive to the parikrama and bus stand and gain car access to your door, which the old lanes cannot offer.
What is within daily reach of Jamunavata?+
Govardhan bus stand and the town's markets are about a kilometre away, the Daan Ghati temple and the parikrama marg 1.5 to 2 km, and a law college sits in the village itself. For larger hospitals, schools and shopping, families drive to Mathura, about 40 minutes. Shared jeeps, tempos and buses ply the Mathura–Govardhan Road but are slow and crowded.
Which SRM projects are in Jamunavata?+
Three: Govardhanlok, an 11-acre MVDA-approved layout with 60–148 sq. yd plots on Govardhan Road; Girraj Enclave, an 11-acre MVDA-approved gated enclave with 120–600 sq. yd plots on the main Mathura–Govardhan Road; and Govardhan Heights, low-rise 1 and 2 BHK builder floors with stilt parking on Govardhan Road.
